The Subaru Impreza WRX has been one of Singapore’s best-selling performance sedans, with a large cabin, plenty of boot space, and a rumbly turbocharged Boxer engine with immense tuning potential.
HEATHER’S SUBARU IMPREZA WRX
OWNERS' RIDE
This girl-driven Japanese Impreza WRX on POTENZA Adrenalin RE003, is both cutesy and aggressive at the same time.
ACCURATE PORTRAYAL OF THIS STEALTHY PERFORMANCE SEDAN
This unit you see here belongs to Heather, who’s nicknamed her black Impreza WRX ‘Kuromi’. Heather’s given her car this nickname after the namesake character from the Japanese cartoon series Hello Kitty, a rabbit that appears devilish and tomboyish while being rather girly inside – an accurate portrayal of this stealthy performance sedan.
Kuromi is a Japanese-specification Subaru Impreza WRX, powered by a 2.0-litre ‘EJ20’ 4-cylinder turbocharged boxer engine and mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Cosmetically, Heather has replaced her factory-fitted wheels with a set of gold-coloured Volk Racing TE37 wheels an inch larger, wrapped in Bridgestone POTENZA Adrenalin RE003 tyres in the 225/40 R18 size. As one that takes every single chance presented to go round a corner quickly, Heather loves how the POTENZAs provide ample feedback from the front axle.
“HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN DURING MULTIPLE SPIRITED DRIVES”
“It’s an extremely responsive tyre that offers excellent dry grip while also giving me confidence in wet conditions. It’s also been completely stable while cornering and has never let me down during multiple spirited drives.” remarks Heather.
A few subtle add-ons such as a rear diffuser and a roof vane from Subaru’s in-house motorsports division Subaru Tecnica International let other drivers know from the rear that this car isn’t to be trifled with, lest they be left in a cloud of smoke.

To stay fully compliant with local regulations, the engine has been left largely original, except for a HKS Super SQV blow-off valve and a HKS Legamax muffler to allow the engine to breathe easier. A trio of Defi gauges send vital statistics to the cockpit, allowing Heather to monitor temperature, oil pressure and boost.
Inside the cabin, the gentle side of this WRX is revealed with a slew of items featuring Japanese characters all over the cabin – a Rilakkuma tissue box and seat belt covers, a Pusheen plush toy, and a Kumamon backpack.
Custom stickers featuring the same characters also adorn the windows of the car, as Heather’s way of having her favourite characters with her at the same time.
EXPERIENCE THE WARMTH AMONGST THE AUTOMOTIVE ENTHUSIAST COMMUNITY
Kuromi was Heather’s first car after getting her license in 2015, keeping her company through several milestones in life. Being only a budding petrolhead when she first acquired the car, it’s given her the opportunity to meet like-minded people and experience the warmth amongst the local automotive enthusiast community. Today, she counts some of these enthusiasts her closest friends – other girl drivers included!
In fact, it was due to the WRX that led Heather to form a relationship with her current boyfriend. A product of her fastidiousness in keeping her car in immaculate condition is the non-negotiable requirement of parking in either an individual or corner parking spot – away from human traffic – in order to reduce dings and dents.
This caught the eye of her boyfriend, who was back then driving a Mazda6 MPS, another Japanese performance sedan with a turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive. As luck would have had it, striking up a conversation to talk about cars soon revealed many other traits they shared in common, and a relationship blossomed.
UNBREAKABLE BOND
Heather and her Subaru Impreza WRX share an unbreakable bond thanks to the times they’ve shared together – and with it’s COE renewed for another 10 years, they’ve got plenty of time to form more memories together.
Heather chose POTENZA Adrenalin RE003, Bridgestone's street performance passenger car tyre, in the tyre size of 225/40 R18 for her Subaru Impreza WRX.
